Working with small-scale fishery communities, Abalobi has developed a set of applications that enable fishers to log their catches precisely, track current prices and sell at a premium on international markets which demand traceability and sustainable practices. Abalobi trains participating fishers to use the applications, manage and log their catch data, and store their fish properly. In return, Abalobi fishing communities adhere strictly to sustainable catch limits and quotas, which allow fish populations to recover and fishers to thrive. With the support of Cartier for Nature, Abalobi is now working to take its successful model to scale across South Africa and beyond.
